Grassroots Base Building Initiatives

Community Gatherings

Community Gatherings are monthly gatherings that promote relatedness, healing, political education and action. These gathering spaces can be the seed of a new issue or campaign team, an election team, or can be the space where people come together to share a meal and learn together, or a space where parents retreat away from their children, or where a community comes together during a crisis. The purpose of these spaces is to provide a space where a community of people can develop, heal and take action together.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY GATHERING?

They are regular, feminine-forward gatherings where womxn of color, trans and queer womxn, and non-binary and GNC people can cultivate relationships with one another, heal, get politicized and be called to take action in the public arena, through collaborative community initiatives, issue campaigns, or electoral/civic engagement activities.

A Community Gatherings Toolkit is available, and we periodically host virtual open house events for people interested in learning more about community gatherings or signing up to coordinate one.

Grassroots Leadership Development

Gathering Host Cohort: all registered gathering hosts are invited to participate in a monthly cohort meeting where hosts experience fellowship, support, advice and feedback around their community gatherings, and engage in each-one-teach-one learning and political education on the 4 pillars of feminine leadership: sharing our stories, healing our trauma, politicizing our experience, and taking radical and restorative action.

Our Base Building and Power Building Training Series provides training that incorporates political healing into our power building work. Through a series of 7 sessions participants explore intersectional analysis on race, class, gender and other forms of structural oppression, learn a variety of healing practices, and learn how trauma-informed practice can be incorporated as a factor in base building decisions. Organizer skills development is also included in this series, including training on how to do a one-to-one conversation, how to proposition someone into a role, how to conduct check-ins with your leaders/team, and how to make powerful money asks. Participants in this training series will be highly encouraged to establish community gatherings or community protector teams as a part of their base building work.
